During the Qing, the simple seat could be enhanced with elaborate carving and flourishes (Fig165). Hexagonal stools such as the one shown here from Zhejiang province were also popular in the late Qing (Fig.17O). Regional craftsmen and farmers also took artistic license with the form, such as tall three-legged stools and innovative barber's seats (Figs. 166, 167). |
